Time and Attendance Record/Timesheet Policy
The Office of the State Comptroller mandates that all New York State employees submit current and accurate attendance records. In order to comply with this mandate the Department of Human Resources instituted the following timesheet policy:
The importance of submitting and maintaining current time records cannot be stressed enough. The time records not only play a vital role in helping supervisors/directors manage their staff’s attendance, but also helps employees know what their current accruals are for the times they will be out on vacation and/or sick (whether their own or for their immediate family members). In past situations, if the time records have not been submitted on a timely basis and faculty/staff are looking to use their sick leave accruals (for their own personal health issues, the birth of a child, retirement, etc.), the HR/Benefits/Payroll Office is left scrambling to get the time records updated by the employee/supervisor so that the accruals can then be used to cover the employee’s absences. These types of situations usually occur at the last minute and in urgent situations when the employee is desperately in need of the time.
Employees who have reached their maximum accruals and/or employees on leave (medical, etc.) are still required by the New York State Office of the State Comptroller to submit monthly timesheets. Employees do not accrue leave credits while they are out on a Title F or Sabbatical Leave.
