August / September 2022 FACT2 Campus Representatives Updates

Dear Staff & Faculty - we hope you all had a restful and restorative summer!

This month’s SUNY FACT2 update includes information on how to prepare for our migration from Moodle to Brightspace, the 2022 SUNY Spectrum Conference, the SUNY New Faculty Peer Mentoring program, and Lumen Circle Fellowships opportunities.

Wishing you all a healthy and productive semester!

Moodle to Brightspace: About the Transition

Purchase College is implementing a new Learning Management System (LMS), D2L Brightspace, as part of a SUNY-led project to bring all of the system’s campuses onto a common learning platform.

  • We will be transitioning from Moodle to Brightspace starting with the Fall 2023 semester.
  • We will be using Moodle through the next academic year (Fall 2022, Winter 2023, and Spring 2023).

In preparation for the migration, there are a few things you can do to get ready:

For more information about the system-wide transition, please see the SUNY Digital Learning Environment site.

For more information about Purchase’s migration from Moodle to Brightspace, please visit the Moodle to Brightspace Migration page.

If you have questions, concerns, or comments, please contact the Moodle to Brightspace Migration Team at COM.d2l.brightspace.project@purchase.edu.

2022 SUNY Spectrum Conference

Join SUNY colleagues on September 15 & 16 for two days of education and conversation about the resilience, power, and survival of the LGBTQIA+ community. Featuring in-person and virtual sessions, as well as discussions with activists Schuyler Bailar, Matt Bernstein, and Amber Briggle, SUNY SPECTRUM fosters a more inclusive and accepting environment for queer individuals navigating systems that uphold cycles of marginalization.

Registration for 2022 SUNY SPECTRUM Conference is now open. Virtual attendance is only $25. The in-person event will be held at the SUNY Global Center in NYC. Attendance is free for college students.

If you have any questions or are a student who would like to be able to attend the conference for free, please contact Johanna Kendrick-Holmes (Johanna.Kendrick-Holmes@suny.edu), Director for NYC Special Events and Programs at the SUNY Global Center.

SUNY Digital Learning Conference 2022

The SUNY Digital Learning Conference will be held at SUNY Oneonta November 4-5, 2022. This year, the theme of the conference will be “Open and Public: Using digital tools to transform learning and foster community engagement.” This conference is sponsored by SUNY Oneonta with a leadership committee assembled from across SUNY. Proposals are now being accepted! Proposals are due by Friday, September 30, 2022 at midnight

Project-based learning, collaborative assignments, public-facing scholarship, and ePortfolios are examples of open practices that empower co-creation, changing the learning environment from passive to dynamic. This SUNY-wide conference provides a place to share tools, pedagogical methods, and support structures designed to encourage exploration, experimentation, and innovation.

Check out the conference website for more details including conference themes and descriptions, and presentation format information.

SUNY New Faculty Peer Mentoring Program

The New Faculty Peer Mentoring Program is being offered this fall at no cost to tenure track faculty across SUNY. This is a collaboration between the Center for Mentoring, Learning and Academic Innovation (CMLAI), SUNY Empire State College, and the SUNY CPD.

Registration for the SUNY New Faculty Peer Mentoring Program is now open. Please note the Fall 2022 registration deadline is September 6.

If you have questions about the program, contact Chris Price (chris.price@suny.edu), Academic Programs Manager at the SUNY Center for Professional Development.

Lumen Circles Fellowships: Learning Communities for Effective Teaching

Lumen Circles Fellowships provide opportunities to connect with other faculty members as you explore effective instructional practices that support student success and apply them in your own teaching. Through the fellowship you can learn, share ideas, and develop professionally in the areas you want to grow.

If you will be teaching in the Fall of 2022 at a SUNY institution, this opportunity is offered at no cost to SUNY faculty or institutions, with support from the SUNY Center for Professional Development and SUNY OER Services.

Learn more about Lumen Circles Fellowships and register for an upcoming “What to Expect: Your Lumen Circles Experience” orientation session:

If you have questions about the program, contact Chris Price (chris.price@suny.edu), Academic Programs Manager at the SUNY Center for Professional Development.

Thanks for your time and attention!
