March 2022 FACT2 Updates

The March 2022 update includes dates for upcoming Brightspace training webinars, a series of free webinars on using Microsoft Teams in higher education, and information on several SUNY conferences and symposia on topics such as universal design, innovative assessment, holistic student success, and technology in education.

March 2022 FACT2 Campus Representatives Updates

Moodle to D2L Brightspace Migration Update

  • Another friendly reminder to please regularly visit the Moodle to Brightspace Migration page for all updates. Our most recent update includes information on the revised migration timeline, Brightspace Core, and more.
  • More information about faculty/staff Brightspace training opportunities is available at the SUNY DLE website.
  • Register for an upcoming SUNY DLE Brightspace Trainers Fireside Chat! These informal sessions will be a great opportunity to learn about and discuss the benefits and features of the Brightspace learning environment directly from the SUNY DLE Brightspace trainers!

SUNY Microsoft Teams Information Sessions (various dates)

  • Please join the SUNY Center for Professional Development (SUNY CPD) and Microsoft for a series of six free webinars on Microsoft Teams and what it can do for your teaching and campus. These webinars will be held at different times during the months of March and April and all sessions will be recorded. You can register to attend sessions live or to receive the recording link after the session.
  • Please visit the Schedule page for more information on each session and the Presenters page for bios of each of presenter.
  • Of particular interest are two sessions on using Teams for Teaching on Wed, March 23 at 2pm-3pm and then again on Thu, March 31 at 9:30am-10:30am.

Introduction to Universal Design for Learning Workshop (SUNY CPD, various start dates)

  • The Introduction to Universal Design for Learning Workshop series, hosted by SUNY CPD and facilitated by Dr. Christopher D. Hromalik (Onondaga Community College), is currently offered in a hybrid format and provides a comprehensive introduction to the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework.
  • Participants will learn why the Universal Design for Learning framework is important, how to apply its principles and guidelines to their own courses, and best practices for interacting with students with disabilities.
  • Additional modules will share strategies to dismantle ableism, incorporate an anti-racist pedagogy, promote social justice, and be more inclusive in the classroom.
  • Participants in this workshop will apply what they learn about Universal Design for Learning to design a new lesson or revise an existing lesson.
  • This workshop is currently offered in a hybrid format on three different dates.

Helping Your Students Demonstrate Learning: A FACT2 Innovative Assessment Symposium (April 7-28)

This is a 4-week symposium to be held every Thursday in April 2022, beginning April 7, from 1pm-2pm. There is no cost to attend these webinars.
Register for one or all webinar sessions:
  • April 7 - Ways to Assess Students Using Multiple Pathways through a Course (specifications grading, contract grading, gamification, and adaptive learning)
  • April 14 - What Can Real World Assessment Look Like? (authentic assessment of work in which students create or compose something for a real audience outside the classroom)
  • April 21 - Strategies for Creating Socially Just Assessments (equitable assessment, labor-based grading, and ungrading)
  • April 28 - Re-examining Assessing Classroom Learning using E-portfolios (assessing classroom learning using e-portfolios)

2022 SUNY Student Success Summit: Holistic Approaches to Student Success (May 4-6)

  • As SUNY is building capacity and best practices for supporting all students during these challenging times with evidence- and results-based campus and student leadership/models/methods, our communities of practice have again joined together in order to facilitate collaboration, networking, and sharing of ideas to improve offerings for all students across the state.
  • The SUNY Student Success Summit will bring together three SUNY communities of practice; Student Success, Applied Learning and Advising.
  • Registration for the 2022 SUNY Student Success Summit is now open!

SUNY Conference on Instruction & Technology (CIT) 2022 (May 31 - June 3)

  • The 30th Annual SUNY Conference on Instruction & Technology (CIT), sponsored by SUNY FACT2, is scheduled to take place in-person at SUNY Oswego, May 31 - June 2.
  • This year’s conference theme, Sustaining the Momentum: Building on What We’ve Learned, is supported by tracks focused on inclusivity and engagement.
  • Highlights include:
    • Keynote Speakers Viji Sathy and Kelly Hogan, national experts on inclusive teaching from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
    • Closing Speaker – Kevin Gannon, Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and Professor of History at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa.
  • Registration for CIT 2022 is now open!

SUNY Technology Conference (STC) 2022 (June 21-23)

  • The SUNY Technology Conference (STC) will be virtual once again this year. The conference will take place on the OnAir platform from EventsAir but most sessions will be conducted via Zoom meeting within that platform. The small $75 registration fee will cover the cost of the platform.
