Upon completion of one year of full-time service with the college, faculty and professional staff are automatically enrolled in the group long-term disability plan offered through the Standard Life Insurance Company of New York. Part-time faculty and staff who are eligible for health insurance are also enrolled after one year of service. There is no cost to employees for this coverage: all premiums are currently paid for by SUNY.

The objective of this plan is to ensure that a substantial portion of your income will be protected in the event of a catastrophic illness or injury of long-term duration. The plan provides for an income of 60 percent of your basic monthly salary, up to a maximum of $7,500 per month, and also contributes a monthly premium to your retirement account while disabled. Benefits begin following six months of total disability.
