Please Leave Your Computer Turned On

During the break, CTS will be pushing out major updates, and we are asking that College computers remain powered on and logged out during the break so they will received these updates. We support the College’s efforts towards energy conservation, and most of our computers are configured to go into a lower power state when idle.

Our automated patching systems are configured to install security updates, which are mandated by New York State security policies, outside of normal business hours.Computers that are off outside of business hours miss their maintenance windows and become out of compliance, which is a cybersecurity risk we want to avoid. Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud updates will be done over the break, which can take several hours to install. If computers are on, they do this during overnight maintenance windows. If a computer is off for an extended period, it will eventually do installs during daytime hours causing a long wait time when the user first logs in. The updates can also eat up a lot of bandwidth if they happen all at once when everyone returns.

Please leave your computers on and logged out during the break. Monitors can be turned off.

We want to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday and new year!

Please contact CTS if you have any questions.
