Dig if You Will: An MFA Exhibition

Welcome to the ’23/’24 Purchase MFA exhibition.

Presented in this communal space is the evidence of individual endeavor - an articulation of the process of processing. The artists here present outcomes of their excavations into subjects ranging from salt flats to curved lines and explore porous boundaries between magic and science - the uncanny and the real. There are connotations of digs in the service of environmental preservation, digging through the rubble, encouraging us to dig deeper into memory for root cause, or to look for survivors. Their investigations reveal what is underneath the surface of things recognized in our shared histories and ask us to imagine possible paths to take from here. As Prince did in the opening line to “When the Dove’s Cry” we are being invited to consider how we relate to our environment and to each other, to Dig if you will.
