Tom Burckhardt ’86

The work of Tom Burckhardt ’86 has been exhibited widely and has shown at “New Image Sculpture” (McNay Art Museum, San Antonio, TX), and was recently included in the Annual Exhibit at the National Academy Museum (New York, NY) and “A World In Cardboard” (City Museum, Aalst, Belgium).

Burckhardt is the recipient of Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grants, New York Foundation for the Arts Painting Grant, the Guggenheim Foundation Grant, and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant.

Burckhardt currently lives and works in New York City.

“For the New York based abstract painter Tom Burckhardt the idea of absurdity has been a compelling point of departure which has led him to push and question the very integrity of a painting as an object.

“Son of the photographer Rudy Burckhardt and painter Yvonne Jacquette, Tom Burckhardt was born 1964 in New York where he still currently resides and works alongside his partner the ceramist Kathy Butterly.

“Burckhardt’s work has been extensively exhibited across the United States with over twenty solo exhibition such as at the Weatherspoon Museum of Greensboro, NC and the Knoxville Art Museum.”
