All members of the Purchase College faculty are represented by United University Professions (UUP). UUP is recognized by the state as the exclusive representative for collective negotiations with respect to salaries, wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment of employees serving in positions in the State University Professional Services Negotiating Unit. UUP is affiliated with New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the National Education Association (NEA), and the AFL-CIO.
Academic and professional employees who choose to become a UUP members will pay union dues via an after-tax payroll deduction. Union dues are (a) one percent of basic annual salary for employees at or above the minimum salary negotiated for the bargaining unit; and (b) nine-tenths of one percent of the employee’s annual salary for employees earning less than the minimum salary negotiated for the bargaining unit.
Information about UUP dues, and membership benefits may be obtained from the UUP chapter office on campus and on the UUP website, uupinfo.org. Detailed information is also available in the Benefits section of this handbook.
Note: While the 2011–2016 NYS/UUP Agreement expired on July 1, 2016, and the next Agreement is being negotiated, the vast majority of the provisions in the 2011–2016 Agreement do not sunset. (These provisions continue under the Triborough Amendment of the Public Employees Fair Employment Act, known as the Taylor Law.) The location stipend will remain in place for all full-time employees, and health benefits will remain in place for all eligible employees. You can check the UUP website for negotiation updates. To access those updates, you will need your department ID number and the last five digits of your New York State employee ID number, which can be found on your paycheck:
Please visit the chapter website for a list of the chapter officers and delegates (executive board) elected by the membership.
