From the smallest to the largest initiative, the college is committed to integrate sustainability into all projects.
The college’s leadership, faculty, staff and students play a crucial role in advancing sustainability. Our initiatives seek to produce measurable impacts, but also raise awareness and promote critical thinking about sustainability. There are various opportunities for the campus community to learn about, participate in and launch sustainable initiatives. Purchase encourages students to explore sustainability through the use of Green Fee which sets money aside each year for projects to advance our campus in innovative ways to improve buildings, conserve energy, source food, preserve land, reduce waste, and improve transportation options. A committee comprised of staff, faculty and students manage the Green Fee voting on sustainability themed projects. A few successful initiatives are The Rocket and Freenew/Freestore, described in the Waste Reduction and Recycling section are two large-scale projects that were implemented as a result of the Green Fee.
