Zoeann Murphy ’03
Zoeann Murphy is an Emmy Award-winning video reporter and professor of visual journalism.
She covered the Israel-Gaza war, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, global migration, and the climate crisis.
She was part of The Washington Post’s Pulitzer Prize-winning team on the ground covering Jan. 6. Her work has been recognized by World Press Photo, POYi, the National Press Foundation, and the Edward R. Murrow Awards, among others.
As a staff reporter for more than 13 years at The Washington Post, she reported on humanitarian and environmental crises, covered breaking news, and worked in more than 20 countries.
In fall 2026, Murphy will be the Ottaway Visiting Professor of Journalism at SUNY New Paltz. She also served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Journalism at the University at Albany.
