Although photography is often seen merely as a means of capturing and reproducing images, it is crucial to recognize photographs as unique objects with their own material properties. 

The Center for Engagement at Purchase College has been transformed into a camera obscura allowing visitors to enter a darkened room where an inverted image of the outside world is projected onto the walls through a small aperture. 

“Photography is .” critically examines the history and evolution of photography, questioning its traditional narratives and exploring its multifaceted nature.

Through this lens, the exhibition conveys the fluidity and versatility of photography as both a visual and material medium.
