Brian Reid (b. 1957) was Windgate Artist-in-Residence at Purchase College in Fall 2017. Reid grew up in Seattle, Washington and attended the University of Washington, studying Engineering and Anthropology. In 1993 after spending 8 years as an Engineer, he returned to school to study furniture design, and attended Parnham College in SW England, studying under John Makepeace and Robert Ingham. He has been working as a furniture designer/maker and
educator ever since. Reid is on the faculty of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport Maine and has taught furniture making and design at Penland School of Crafts, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Adam Smith College in Scotland, as well as several universities. He is the recipient of the 2016 Artist Award from the Maine Arts Commission and a member of the New Hampshire Furniture Masters.
