New Instructional Design Support Service Available to All Faculty! 

Purchase College has partnered with SUNY Online Instructional Design Services to offer all Purchase College faculty and instructors access to instructional design support!

  • To request an appointment with a SUNY Instructional Designer, please contact the SUNY Online Help Desk at 1 (844) 673-6786 or 1 (518) 320-1300 or create a support request and specify that you would like to schedule a consultation with an Instructional Designer. They will follow up with you to find a meeting time that works for you and your schedule.
  • Consultations are available on an individual and small group basis so if you’d like to meet with a few colleagues, that is a great option!

SUNY Council on Assessment: Fall 2023 Zoom-In: Navigating Assessment in the Digital Era: Confronting Equity, Inclusion, System Thinking and AI (Nov 9, 12:30pm-2:30pm) | Free virtual event, register now

While much focus has been given to pedagogical adaptations to AI since its inception, in this free virtual event, participants will focus on how assessment can be used to address or benefit from AI technologies. Specifically, participants will look at how AI has the potential to widen and narrow equity gaps and become more inclusive and how assessment may be used to address this phenomenon. Participants will also be encouraged to consider improving their assessment methods and tools while reflecting on promising practices as we all navigate assessment in the digital era.   Participation is open to faculty, staff, admin. throughout the system and beyond—anyone is welcome to attend that is a higher education professional.  


Introduction to Universal Design for Learning Workshop Hybrid Workshop (via Zoom & Brightspace)

This free workshop, currently offered in a hybrid format, provides a comprehensive introduction to the Universal Design for Learning framework. Participants will learn why the Universal Design for Learning framework is important, how to apply its principles and guidelines to their own courses, and best practices for interacting with students with disabilities. Participants in this workshop will apply what they learn about Universal Design for Learning to design a new lesson or revise an existing lesson. Register now for Winter 2023!

National Distance Learning Week (November 6-10, 2023) 

National Distance Learning Week, sponsored by the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA), is being celebrated November 6-10, 2023. During this week, SUNY Online plans to showcase some of the terrific activities from our campuses. We will be hosting daily virtual webinars for participants to drop in and learn about the presentation topic. SUNY Online webinars are promoted on the USDLA website, so this is a terrific opportunity for you to share what you know with your peers and to a national audience! We invite you to consider presenting on a project or topic of your choice around online teaching and learning, supporting students online, artificial intelligence in higher education, or another topic of relevance.


SUNY Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice in the Curriculum Conference: Building a Community of Practice (November 3 & 4, 2023) 

SUNY System Administration, SUNY University Faculty Senate, and SUNY Faculty Council of Community Colleges are hosting an academic conference focused on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (DEISJ) in the Curriculum. The conference will bring new and aspiring DEISJ instructors and scholars together with seasoned DEISJ instructors and scholars who can share their expertise in teaching and learning, research, course development, and assessment of DEISJ content. The conference will facilitate robust exchange of ideas and provide opportunities for networking, with the overall goal of fostering a community of DEISJ practitioners. Registration is now open!


Open Climate Campaign: Scholarly Communication Tools to Tackle the Climate Crisis (Dec 12, 1:00pm-2:00pm) | Free virtual event

Climate change, and the resulting harm to our global biodiversity, is one of the world’s most pressing challenges. Recognizing the need for open access in climate science, the Open Climate Campaign is working to make the open sharing of research the norm in climate science through advocacy, direct work with funders of climate research, its international focus and by opening foundational climate change publications. SUNY Empire’s 9th Annual Learning with Innovative Technology (LIT) Conference (July 19, 2024) 

Empire State University is pleased to announce the 9th Annual Learning with Innovative Technology (LIT) Conference on July 19, 2024. This is a free virtual conference open to anyone interested in the use of technology in education, including higher education faculty, K-12 teachers, adult educators, technology specialists, librarians, and administrators. Attendees will be able to engage in a variety of professional development presentations facilitated by experts and peers with similar interests. Registration is now open! You are also invited to submit a proposal to present a 90-minute workshop session or 45-minute traditional Education. Proposals will be accepted until midnight,  April 5, 2024.
