Academic Support
The School of Natural and Social Sciences offers an assortment of valuable services for its students through the Office of Science Student Support Services.
The Einstein Corner math, science & computer science tutoring center is located in NS3046. Please see below for information on how to book an appointment with a tutor.
The Office of Science Student Support Services provides a friendly and welcoming environment—a place for students in the natural and social sciences to go to when they need help. This office offers tutoring services to students in math, science, and computer science classes. Students are offered the assistance and guidance they need to help them succeed in their academic studies and achieve their career goals. To schedule an appointment with one of our tutors, please visit our Einstein Corner Starfish page.
The Office of Science Student Support Services also partners with the Offices of Admissions and the Registrar, and works with the college’s Career Development Center to counsel students on graduate and medical school admissions and assist as they look into employment opportunities for after graduation.
ThinkingStorm (24/7 Online Tutoring)
Purchase students have access to virtual professional tutors online 24/7 via ThinkingStorm.
ThinkingStorm is an online tutoring platform utilized by many colleges. It provides 24/7 access to professional tutors online for many subject areas from STEM, to Economics, and Writing in all disciplines, and offers support for some classes in Spanish.
Please note that the Einstein Corner Tutors are not available during summer session or during finals, so please consider utilizing ThinkingStorm during this time.
Students can make an appointment by accessing ThinkingStorm tutoring services in the Navbar at the top of their Purchase Brightspace page.
Einstein Corner
Einstein Corner provides Purchase College students with free tutoring assistance in such areas as mathematics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. Tutors undergo a rigorous review process to ensure that they are qualified. Psychology tutors can be found in the Learning Center. Unfortunately, we do not offer tutors for every class. If your class does not have a tutor, please check out Thinking Storm on Brightspace for support, or seek assistance from the professor of the class during their office hours. Some classes also have learning assistants who may be able to provide support, as well.
To make sure the tutors are available to help as many students as possible, students can only book a tutor for up to 45 minutes per session, once a week. If a tutor has limited availability, they may tutor small groups of students at the same time.
To book an appointment with an Einstein Corner tutor, please click on the link above, or navigate to the “Current Students” tab on the Purchase College homepage and select “Starfish” under Quick Links. While the Einstein Corner offers tutoring exclusively for math and science courses, free tutoring for other subjects is available at the Learning Center (which is located in the library), and information on tutoring for Economics classes can be found on the Purchase Economics webpage.
Most Einstein Corner tutors are available for virtual one-on-one sessions via Zoom or in-person sessions, which are held in NS 3046. Please note when booking your appointment in Starfish whether it is in person or online.
