The Beat Is On

The spring 2023 issue of the music journalism magazine is published.

What began more than ten years ago as the brainchild of Professor of Journalism Andrew Salomon has turned into a semi-annual publication where students write, design, and produce a printed magazine dedicated to music and culture.

For students with a passion for journalism, the class The Beat: Magazine Production puts a range of journalism skills into practice, like reporting, writing, and editing; writing headlines and captions; layout and design; and the finer points of news judgment. Working independently and within a team are both at play.

The prize is a publication they call their own, printed and distributed on campus and beyond.

Issue No 18 was created by members of the magazine staff and students The Beat production class and features a cover story that celebrates The Stood and its place in the rich music history of Purchase.
