Every year OE Week raises awareness and highlights innovative open education successes worldwide. Title: OLI Ready to Adopt Courses and Customization
Presenters: Tony DeFranco (SUNY OER Services), Hal Turner (OLI), Erin Czerwinski (OLI)
Description: SUNY OER Services has partnered with The Open Learning Initiative (OLI) at Carnegie Mellon University to offer dozens of ready-to-adopt OER courses at no cost for SUNY students. The OLI approach leverages learning science principles, and is proven to improve student outcomes. Available topics include: arts and humanities, business, STEM, computer science and programming, languages, social sciences, and student success. OLI courses are easy to set up and can be administered through your learning management system (LMS) or can be delivered without an LMS. Join us to find out more about OLI’s approach to learning design, available courses, and how to customize existing titles or even author your own content.

Title: SUNY OER Services: How Campus Administrators Can Use OER Data to Promote Access
Presenters: Cori Wilhelm and Tony DeFranco (SUNY OER Services)
Description: Over the past five years, SUNY OER Services (SOS) has played an integral part in reducing financial barriers to higher education for SUNY students. Learn about the offerings provided by SOS and its partners, including access to a comprehensive course catalog and faculty development opportunities to promote active learning and strengthen student success. The presentation will explore OER data reporting on campuses, and how accurately reporting OER helps expand access and close equity gaps for students. SOS can further use this data to provide impact analyses and identify opportunities for growth for each campus.

Title: Using our Open Source Publishing platforms to enable ePortfolios
Presenters: Ed Beck and Dr. Sarah Portway (SUNY Oneonta)
Description: Multiple SUNY campuses are sharing resources that make building websites and portfolios possible. At SUNY Oneonta, instructor support for ePortfolios comes from the Teaching, Learning, & Technology Center. The presenters will share an upper-division fashion portfolio project as a case study of utilizing open source web publishing platforms to create student ePortfolios. We will include faculty, instructional design, and student feedback perspectives.
During the presentation, we will present from multiple viewpoints. From a campus perspective, multiple ePortfolio solutions were piloted in the past two years. We will discuss the decision-making process that brought us to our current solution that blends authentic web building skills, portability after graduation, and privacy controls. From an instructor perspective, we will share our experiences beginning a new project, shifting support for different modalities during remote instruction semesters, and timing assignments, feedback, reflection, and revision across the semester. To prepare for this presentation we have interviewed former students, and have included their perceptions on the ePortfolio building process and how it helped them prepare for their careers.

Title: Strengthening Student Research and Intercultural Competence: Open Education in International Virtual Exchanges
Presenters: Jie Zhang, Jennifer Kegler, Dr. Mary Jo Orzech, and Ann Pearlman (SUNY Brockport)
Description: The presenters will share their journey of planning, implementing, and revising the assignments in their international virtual exchange courses to help students strengthen research and intercultural competence, using open educational resources (OERs). They will showcase the OER instructional materials and assignments. The faculty-librarian-instructional designer collaboration and the impact of OER will be discussed.

Title: Using Google Tools to Create and Administer Open Content
Presenter: Dave Ghidiu (Finger Lakes Community College)
Description: We’ll look at quick and easy ways to use Google tools to create content and distribute it. Have a lab experiment you want students to follow? We’ll look at Docs as a way to clone documents and use textual hierarchy for easy grading.
Want to build up your question banks with student-created questions? We’ll look at Google Forms and Sheets as an easy way to collect these questions.
Need an easy way to host an OER book? Google Sites to the rescue!
Want to make interactive images? Google Drawings for the win (and we’ll look at different sites like Unsplash and Pixabay for open artwork).
