Georgie Humphries ’19 & April McIlwaine ’19 Receive Awards

Alumni awarded for work in environmental studies and biology at the WCA Entrepreneurship in the Sciences event.

Congratulations to both Georgie Humphries, who received the 2019 Student Science Entrepreneurship Award, and April McIlwaine, who received the 2019 Women in Tech Award, at the Westchester County Association’s Entrepreneurship in the Sciences Event.

Georgie Humphries is a graduate of the Environmental Studies program. Georgie’s senior project was under the mentorship of Dr. Ryan Taylor. The project focused on collaborating with the ecotourism and sustainability industry in Cyprus.

April McIlwaine is a graduate of the Biology program. April’s senior project was under the mentorship of Dr. Stephen Harris. The project involved a third generation genome sequencer, for which she developed protocols that could significantly advance the field of chytrid research.
