Lotte Fincken

Lotte Fincken is a Literature Major. She will be presenting her senior project titled “‘I Am No Bird; and No Net Ensnares Me’: Unreliable and Split Narration in Modern American Narratives of Female Depression.” The project analyses three (semi) autobiographical texts by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Sylvia Plath and Susanna Kaysen and the way these authors use reflective and split narration. With their writing, they point out the injustices done to them and emphasize the importance of control over one’s narrative. With the modes of writing, they are able to give their (past) selves power and liberation while also addressing the problematic treatment of women within the medical setting.
