Emily Schirmer
Emily Schirmer is a History and Economics double major. She will be presenting her senior project titled “Brotherhood and Charity in Renaissance Florence: The Role of Confraternities in Maintaining Social Cohesion During Urbanization.” In examining the efforts made by early modern lay organizations to curb emerging problems for Florence’s poor, she shows how their work contributed to maintaining the cultural identity and prosperity of the newly-urbanized city.
