Nicolás De Jesús: A Mexican Artist for Global Justice

In this short video, see works from the solo exhibition Nicolás De Jesús: A Mexican Artist for Global Justice, moments from the opening reception, and interviews with the artist and curator that explore how global sociopolitical issues – from human rights to immigration to environmental instability – are addressed in the works on view that cover three decades of the artist’s career.

Nicolás De Jesús is a contemporary Mexican artist who is well known for his etchings inspired by life in his native community. Some of the artist’s most iconic graphic work are currently on view at the Neuberger Museum of Art alongside a set of powerful political street banners and an astonishing series of recent, monumental, colorful paintings addressing crises specific to the United States. This show offers a challenge to the conventional definition of contemporary art.
