Ellen Brooks
Lecturer of Writing
Ellen Brooks teaches College Writing and has been part of the Purchase writing faculty since 2014. She has worked in public education as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Hunter College, a literacy consultant/teacher in the Mamaroneck Public Schools, and as an Assistant Professor of Education at Manhattanville College. She earned a B.A. from the Pennsylvania State University, an M.Ed. from Temple University, an Ed.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Sarah Lawrence College. Ellen’s research and program development efforts focus on the pedagogy of teaching writing through the arts. Ellen is the author of Just Right Books for Beginning Readers (Scholastic). Her essay, “Dayenu,” published in The Blue Lyra Review was selected as a Notable Essay in the Best American Essays 2015 (Mariner Books).
