Michelle Dieguez

Michelle Dieguez is a Literature major with a double minor in Theatre & Performance and Gender Studies. She will be presenting her senior project, titled The Genealogy of Jordan Peele’s Get Out: Racial Surrogacy, the Disguised Femme Fatale, and the Modern-day White Militia. Jordan Peele’s 2017 horror film Get Out exposes the lingering racism black people face in our nation. Within this film, Peele incorporates many “easter eggs,” or references to hidden meanings that appear in the present and can be traced back historically. Through my senior project, I will explore all of the historical references made in the film, which reveal how indebted Peele is to prior American novels and films that are invested in exploring similar themes.
