Adam Nagourney ’77

Author and reporter Adam Nagourney (Economics) covers West Coast cultural affairs for The New York Times.

He was previously the Los Angeles bureau chief and served eight years as the chief national political correspondent. He is the co-author of Out for Good, a history of the modern gay rights movement.

Nagourney has been with the Times since 1996. He’s contributed to the New York Times Magazine, the newspaper’s dining and travel sections, and its political blog, The Caucus.

Nagourney played such an enormous role as the Times’ Chief National Political Correspondent for eight years, the paper chose to hire three reporters to replace him.

As a political analyst and author, Nagourney has reported on the presidential campaigns of Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, as well as New York City and State politics.

He has written numerous articles, including profiles of the Reverend Al Sharpton; Ken Mehlman, chairman of the Republican National Committee from 2005 to 2007; Karl Rove, President Bush’s chief political adviser; Andrew Cuomo, then Attorney General of New York; and Jerry Brown, Governor of California.

Nagourney received the President’s Award for Distinguished Alumni from Purchase College in 2007.
