This lecture will engage an interdisciplinary group of students, faculty and community members in thinking about the health of children locally and globally. An interactive, participatory lecture approach will use two case teaching examples to illustrate the concepts of community pediatrics and of community-oriented care aimed at improving the health of children in resource challenged community settings. The lecture will review the application of 5 global health principles and 5 faculty/student competencies needed to engage in a respectful and effective manner with communities to achieve improved health outcomes.
