Paul Beatty

Paul Beatty is a novelist and poet. In 2016, Beatty became the first American to ever win the Man Booker Prize for Fiction for The Sellout. The novel, which also won the National Book Critics Circle Award, was described in the Los Angeles Times as “among the most important and difficult American novels written in the 21st century.” Beatty has published three other novels—Slumberland, Tuff, and The White Boy Shuffle—as well as two collections of poetry. He lives in New York City and teaches at Columbia University.
