backstory: Translucid

I love this picture of Fred Eversley, who we lost about six months ago. He looks like a giant here, and he was a giant in the art world. You can read more about his life and work in this remembrance.

I’m excited that Fred’s work is featured prominently in our newest exhibition, Translucid: Art within and throughout, which opened today. Curated by Patrice Giasson, the Alex Gordon Curator of Art of the Americas, the show brings together works that make transparency and translucency central—resin, glass, and layered constructions that shift as you move around them. It’s a great example of our doing one of the things we love… revisiting the collection with fresh eyes.

Translucid invites us to see how artists have explored material, light, and perception since mid-century. It pairs beautifully with other shows now on view—Stephen Antonakos: Proscenium, Light Art, and Molten Metals—together creating a dynamic conversation across media.

Our curators are committed to bringing forward collection-based stories, spotlighting works not always on view and placing them in new dialogues. In the months ahead, look for more of these focused collection projects, each offering a chance to rediscover the extraordinary depth and breadth of the Neuberger’s holdings.
