backstory: Young visitors
One of the great joys of my work at the Neuberger is seeing the Museum through the eyes of young people.
This past spring, a student named Paige wrote after her class visit:
“Me and my classmates had a blast… Every single art piece was absolutely fantastic and beautiful. I really love drawing, and seeing all these art pieces makes me want to become an artist. Maybe one day I could make an art piece like the ones in your Museum.”
Notes like Paige’s explain why our school tour program is so popular. This fall alone, about 500 students will join us on campus for guided visits—every one led by our amazing Volunteer Museum Educators.
My deepest thanks go to all who support the Neuberger’s education programs, with special gratitude to the Thomas and Agnes Carvel Foundation. Their renewed grant, doubled in size from last year, supports the NEU Kids Art Access Program, making it possible for Title I and other qualifying schools to visit with no barriers: round-trip buses are covered, admission is free, and students spend an hour in the galleries on a guided experience with our Volunteer Museum Educators curated by our Education department (thank you Diana, Bliss, and Phoebe!), topped off with lunch in the campus dining hall.
Hundreds of students stepping into the Museum for the first time. Countless moments of discovery. That’s the story we’re building together, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

P.S. Do you know a school that might like to visit the Neuberger? Send them our way. And remember, we also offer guided tours for adult groups.
