backstory: Takeover!

It took a little arm twisting—okay, not really—but Tracy agreed to let me take over today’s backstory blog because she knows how important this message is...

First: thank you! Whether you supported the Neuberger this year by joining or renewing your membership; attending an exhibition opening, a drop-in tour, or a Wellness Wednesday meditation; or joining us for an In Conversation talk or lecture—we noticed. And we’re grateful.

But now I’m asking you to take one more step and make an unrestricted gift to the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art before our fiscal year ends on June 30.

Yes, I want to make an unrestricted gift before Monday!

Why unrestricted? Because these gifts do far more than keep the lights on. They support exhibitions, education, operations—all the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the Museum alive.

And why now? Public funding is declining, and private grants are more competitive than ever. Your support today helps ensure we can deliver everything we have planned for the year ahead.

In these blog posts, you often hear Tracy describe the Museum as a space where artists, students, scholars, and audiences come together to learn, experiment, and grow through shared experiences. From preschoolers to college grads to visitors of all ages, the Neuberger shapes minds, builds futures, and yes—launches careers.

I know. Because I was one of those creative kids. That’s right. Years ago, I was a Neuberger intern. Under the mentorship of then-director Suzanne Delehanty, I gained the experience that launched my career in New York’s museum and gallery world. Now, full circle, I’m back at the Neuberger—asking for your help to keep that kind of opportunity going for students like these recent graduates:

After interning on the Neuberger’s 50th anniversary project, I knew museum work was for me. It taught me the skills I need for curatorial study and helped shape my career path.

— Matthew ’25 (History; Museum Studies and Art History Minor)

Working at the Neuberger transformed my academic journey. I gained real experience that shaped my senior project and broadened my professional toolkit.

— Lili ’25 (Graphic Arts)

My internships in curatorial and preparatory departments deepened my understanding of museum practices and gave me lasting skills. I now feel confident pursuing a career in museums.

— David ’25 (Visual Arts)

Help this backstory hijack make an impact. Give by June 30 so we finish the fiscal year strong—and start the new academic year with the momentum our creative community deserves!

Thank you,
