Veteran Journalist Returns to Alma Mater

Adam Nagourney ’77 delivered a fascinating talk as part of the Durst Lecture Series.

On Tuesday, October 8,  veteran journalist Adam Nagourney ’77 (Economics) returned to Purchase for a discussion on the state of journalism, coverage of the presidential election, and his book The Times: How the Newspaper of Record Survived Scandal, Scorn, and the Transformation of Journalism (2023).

“Adam is a terrific reporter who also happens to be generous with this time and his insights. We’re lucky to have him as a Purchase graduate,” says Ross Daly, Associate Professor of Journalism and moderator of the event.

Nagourney (economics) has been a journalist for over 45 years. Before joining the New York Times, he worked at USA Today, the New York Daily News, and the Gannett Westchester Newspapers.

After being hired by the Times in 1996, he served as the paper’s metropolitan political correspondent, chief national political correspondent, Los Angeles bureau chief, and West Coast culture reporter, returning to cover national politics in 2023.
