Summer Fun at Purchase!
Here are some ideas for a change of pace as we enjoy the summer months. Experience art, take a class or a swim, get “up up and away” or meet outdoors for lunch and a stroll!
The Performing Arts Center
NYO Jazz Faculty Showcase
The PAC is looking forward to the annual Carnegie Hall National Youth Orchestra residency of NYO-USA, NYO2, and NYO Jazz. NYO Jazz, comprising outstanding young musicians ages 16–19 from across the US, showcases the legacy and bright future of American jazz. Led by Artistic Director Sean Jones, the musicians are coached by a stellar faculty of America’s esteemed jazz players, who will give a faculty showcase the evening of Friday, July 12, in The PAC. Keep an eye on artscenter.org or follow The PAC on social media @PurchasePAC for updates (Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / You Tube). And for suggestions of activities, local and virtual, check out the monthly Culture Picks!

Sound Bath in Threnody: Wellness Wednesdays continue this summer!
Renew your mind, body, and spirit in the Threnody gallery from 1-2pm on June 26 and July 31 for an immersive healing and restorative experience with meditation and yoga instructor Janelle Berger and her crystal singing bowls. Through sound vibration and guided meditation, this session will create mental clarity, mind/body connection, balance, and relaxation.
Cleve Gray’s Threnody and Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time
The Copland House Ensemble will perform Olivier Messiaen’s monumental Quartet for the End of Time in the Threnody gallery on Sunday, June 30, from 4-5pm. Both of these epic artworks respond to wartime death and destruction not with rage but with love and hope. Threnody is on view as part of the Museum’s commemorative golden anniversary exhibition, The Making of a Museum: 50 Years. Guests are encouraged to browse the exhibition prior to the performance. This is a free event. A light reception will follow the concert. RSVP here.
Registrar’s Office
All courses are open to staff that are not restricted to certain majors and, over the summer, there are basically no restrictions. Every UUP member is entitled to take one course free of charge per semester, but they can only register after the add/drop period to ensure students have priority access to seats.

The sculpture collection was started in 1965 and consists of works by major twentieth-century artists. Russell Page, the internationally famous garden designer, cultivated the corporate grounds into an arboretum transforming the gardens into a work of art.
