Sierra Blanco ’26 Wins Kennedy Center Award

Sophomore Playwriting and Screenwriting major wins playwriting award.

Sierra Blanco ’26 (PWSW) worked her way through regional competitions and finally found herself in Washington, DC as a national finalist in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Awards.

The 19 finalists selected from around the country were mainly graduate level students.  Sierra, a sophomore, became a National Award Winner, earning the Ken Ludwig Portfolio Award in Playwriting, which recognizes an emerging artist’s body of work.

“I am delighted and flabbergasted to get this prize,” Blanco says.  “It was a terrific experience—very intense and I learned a ton!  I would encourage more students from Purchase to participate.”

Broadway World announced the winners on May 6, 2024.

Sierra submitted both a full length musical and a short play.

Purchase is so proud of her accomplishments and can’t wait to see what’s next for this emerging talent.
