Short Film by Lecturer Melissa Rodriguez ’13 Is Audience Favorite

Helado won the Audience Choice Award.

Helado, a short film written and directed by Lecturer of Communications Melissa Rodriguez ’13 (Cinema Studies, Screenwriting minor), won the Audience Choice award when the Festival of Cinema NYC 2023 announced its Filmmaker Awards on Sunday, August 13.

It was the premiere festival for the film, which has more stops on the circuit planned. Next up is Shorts México in Mexico City—the largest international short film festival in Latin America.

It’s serendipitous for Rodriguez, who wrote and directed the film in Mexico City, and is ecstatic the cast and crew will be in attendance.

The film will then screen at the TCL Chinese Theater in L.A. as part of HollyShorts, a monthly Oscar-qualifiying event. Date is forthcoming.

Rodriguez’s full-service video production company, Riot Girl Productionsfocuses on “marginalized stories dedicated to social justice.”
