June 2023 Brightspace updates from the TLTC and Brightspace Migration Project Team as well as info about upcoming SUNY conferences.
Dear staff & faculty - we hope that your summer is off to a great start! Here’s some Brightspace updates from the TLTC and Brightspace Project team as our implementation and migration work continues.
We’re Moving from Moodle to Brightspace!
Purchase College will be switching our learning management system from Moodle to D2L Brightspace beginning with the Fall 2023 semester. Each faculty member can decide the best path forward using the approaches outlined at our Moving Courses from Moodle to Brightspace page. Please note that our current Moodle server will be available through the Fall 2025 semester but no new courses or enrollments will be created there.
SUNY DLE Brightspace Fundamentals Asynchronous Training Modules
All instructors have been enrolled in the SUNY DLE Brightspace Fundamentals Asynchronous Modules training course at SUNY’s tenant of Brightspace. Simply login to Brightspace to access the training. Look for the course in your “My Courses” widget > “CPD Pilot Semester.” Working through these modules is a great way to get started with using Brightspace!Brightspace Support from SUNY Online Help Desk
As part of our migration from Moodle to Brightspace, Purchase now subscribes to Tier 1 support services provided by the SUNY Online Help Desk. You can contact them by creating an LMS support request (click on the “Submit a Help Ticket” button) and/or calling them during their staffed hours. 8th Annual Learning with Innovative Technology (LIT) Conference (Aug 10)
SUNY Empire State University will host its 8th Annual Learning with Innovative Technology (LIT) conference on Thu, Aug 10, 2023. This is a FREE virtual conference focused on using technologies in education.
SUNY OTTER Institute 2023 (Aug 14 - Sep 18)
The SUNY Center for Professional Development (CPD) OTTER Institute is an opportunity for online practitioners, regardless of teaching modality, to learn more about online education’s innovations, trends, and challenges.Faculty can register now for the Summer/Fall Course Delivery Institute, set to take place Aug 14 - Sep 18, to receive free course delivery and Brightspace assistance from the SUNY DLE Trainers! SUNY Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice in the Curriculum Conference: Building a Community of Practice (Nov 3 & 4)
SUNY System Administration, SUNY University Faculty Senate, and SUNY Faculty Council of Community Colleges are hosting an academic conference focused on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (DEISJ) in the Curriculum to take place in-person at SUNY Albany on Nov 3 & 4, 2023.

The TLTC requests your feedback about our version of D2L Brightspace so that we can plan for future system improvements. Please submit your thoughts via the Brightspace Feedback Form (not via email). Anonymous feedback is welcome and please feel free to fill out any section of the form as many times as you’d like.The SUNY and D2L Brightspace contract is for several years and gathering data like this gives us the power to enact potential change. We want to hear your voices, both positive and critical. Please be candid. If something works well, great! If it doesn’t, let us know! We greatly value your input!
