backstory: Earnest

You’ve heard me talk about our performance art show, Hard Return: 9 Experiments for this Moment, and the opportunities that have been created for Purchase College students to be involved as performers and as production assistants.

This week’s artist, Autumn Knight, has also invited five performers drawn from the Purchase College faculty to participate in her work, Complain/Disappoint. Some of the performers will interact with sculptural objects created by Knight. Others will recite texts featuring the complaints of people who “are not usually allowed to complain or who we do not expect to hear complaining.” One of the performers will be Purchase College Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Earnest Lamb PhD who will accompany the works on the cello. As a cellist, Earnest is an active chamber musician and a former member of the Fayetteville, Memphis, and Arkansas Symphony orchestras. I heard that he’s been practicing and sounds amazing. Come see the exhibition and hear Earnest play.
