backstory: And now the winners!
Thanks to everyone who entered last week’s survey. Cleve Gray’s Threnody is the massive and powerful work that was being moved into the museum. Installation is underway now in advance of the March 23 opening.
Congratulations to J. Cooper, D. Kersten, and P. Malone whose names were drawn from all the entries received. We’ll reach out to you directly to confirm details of our private tour of The Friends at 50: Selections from the Collection.

And a postscript:
When I decided to re-install Threnody for the 50th Anniversary of our Friends organization, I did so long ago, prior to the beginning of a new war. Now, as I watch the piece being installed this week, I am reminded of the poignancy of art and its ways of communicating in times of hardship and sorrow. You can read about Cleve Gray’s intention as it related to war when he painted Threnody in this article from PURCHASE magazine.
