backstory: Two great friends

This week, the Neuberger Museum family lost two great friends.
Tom Molnar, along with his wife Dr. Susan Harris, have not only been long-time supporters of the museum and the college, but also dear friends to so many of us. Tom was a dedicated docent for many years. A collector himself, he was passionate about African art and was generous with his time and enthusiasm for the objects in our collection. We will miss seeing Tom in the galleries and I will greatly miss my conversations with him. He had a strong inquisitive mind. When Tom had a question for me, I knew I would have to think hard.

The other loss for our community this week was our good friend Jacques d’Amboise, founder of the National Dance Institute. The Neuberger Museum of Art and NDI have long been connected by our former and their current board chair, and our great friend and patron, Helen Stambler Neuberger. In fact, it was at the Neuberger’s honoring of Helen and of Jim Neuberger, Roy’s youngest son, in 2014 that I first saw kids in the NDI program dance. What a wonderful thing it was to see these amazing children in the Neuberger’s South Gallery. It’s one of my fondest memories of all the events that we’ve had at the museum.

Both will be dearly missed.
