backstory: Global Citizenship

For me, showing students how to look out beyond their own “backyards” is a key ingredient in teaching the value of understanding difference and of global citizenship.

It’s something I value in our programming at the Neuberger and something that Purchase College values in its curricular offerings.  This coming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday is Purchase College’s second annual Global Festival, (T)HERE. And this year, we’re focusing on Haiti. There are lots of different kinds of programs, information about which can be found here

At the Neuberger, we’re featuring the work of Engels the Artist, a Haitian-born artist who now lives and works in Brooklyn. Engels is very accomplished and has been very generous with his time to us. He will be concluding his residency at the Neuberger this weekend. So, if you haven’t had a chance to drop by, see the show, and meet him, he’ll be in the gallery Thursday, November 14 from 12:30 to 3:30 pm and Saturday, November 16 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm.
