backstory: Move-In Day
Even though I’ve worked at the Neuberger and Purchase College, SUNY, for a long time now, last week was the first time I participated in “Move-in Day,” the day each year when students move into their dorm rooms.
Greeting excited and nervous students, and quizzical, anxious and sometimes teary parents, it was a great day, and, frankly, some minor preparation for next year when I’ll do the same as a parent with my eldest.
Purchase attracts such a unique array of students, a high percentage of whom are “first generation,” coming here to study history, math, biology AND to dance, sing, and make art, just to name a few areas of study. Others are coming to figure out what they want to study. First step though, get into the dorms.
