backstory: Where in the World is the Neuberger?

At the Barbican in London!

There’s a new show devoted to Lee Krasner that opened at the Barbican at the very end of May and we’re lenders.  Included in the show, entitled Lee Krasner: Living Colour, is our work Burning Candles from 1955, a beautiful collage that Roy R. Neuberger purchased in 1956 from the Stable Gallery in New York.

According to Neuberger Museum Assistant Curator Avis Larson who has written on the piece, “It’s a very special work, one of a group of collages that Krasner produced between 1953 and 1955 in which she  incorporated not only cut and torn pieces of her own canvas and drawings, but also works that her husband, artist Jackson Pollock, no longer wanted.”

Hope you get a chance to see the show if you’re in London.  If you can’t catch it there, the show will travel to the Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, October 11, 2019 through January 12, 2020; Zentrum Paul Klee, Bern, February 7 through May 10, 2020; and Guggenheim Bilbao, May 29 through September 6, 2020.  Then the piece will be back home.
