Under the Influence Conference a Huge Success

On March 14, the Wellness Center hosted over 200 participants at its 2nd Annual Under the Influence Conference.

The conference is an annual event promoting substance use prevention in our collegiate communities and seeks to inform campuses on how the entire campus and our larger community can help support our students with substance misuse.

This year, the conference hosted local legend John Hamilton of Liberation Programs; Dr. Jason Kilmer, esteemed researcher from the University of Washington; and international best-selling author and speaker of a Ted Talk with over 12 million views, Johann Hari.

In addition to these speakers, the conference promoted a world-wide growing resource on college campuses which aims to support students in recovery, Collegiate Recovery Programs.

These programs offer support services and social connection opportunities to students in recovery and their allies and have proven to result in excellent student outcomes including high graduation rates, reduced time to graduate and higher GPAs.

Program representatives from Rutgers University, Fairfield University, University of Connecticut and Boston College all presented the success and challenged of their Collegiate Recovery Programs.

The conference will continue next year with even more exciting resources. Please see our Instagram page for more coverage and details @CASSAPny.
