Rehabilitate Exterior of Physical Education Building

Replacement of all exterior windows, doors, and central skylight; installation of a new roof; new accessible entrances.

Project Overview

The Physical Education building was constructed in 1973 and designed by the campus master plan architect, Edward Larrabee Barnes. The building currently suffers from water infiltration issues at the roof, walls, windows and doors. All of the original windows need to be replaced with new operable windows, original doors need replacement, the central skylights also needs to be replaced with new energy efficient glass, and the leaking exterior masonry needs to be repaired to create a water tight, healthy and safe learning environment. Building accessibility also needs to be addressed as the only accessible entrance is through the rear of the building.

Project Scope

This project will include the replacement of all the exterior windows and doors, the central skylight, a new roof, extensive masonry repairs, a new accessible front entrance on the ‘Great Lawn’ side of the building (including direct access to the elevator), as well as new accessible entrances off the rear and north parking areas. The project will also explore new lighting in the gym, new skylights over the interior courts for more natural light and energy savings, as well as air conditioning for the gym.
