Online Course Withdrawal
Course withdrawals are now processed online through the student registration system.
The Registrar’s Office has implemented a new process for course withdrawals starting for the Fall 2025 semester. Any student who would like to withdraw from a course and receive a non-punitive “W” grade must now do so online through the student registration system.
After the add/drop period and prior to the listed course withdrawal deadline for a given semester, a new registration status will appear in the dropdown menu used for making registration changes listed as **Web Withdrawal**. Students can now select this option to automatically withdraw themselves from a course with no paper forms. Once this option has been selected and the withdrawal has been processed, an automated email will be sent to the student informing them that they have officially withdrawn from the course.
Course withdrawals can have the potential to negatively affect academic progress, athletic participation, international student status, financial aid, and tuition. Students are responsible for understanding the implications of withdrawing from a course and are strongly encouraged to discuss the potential ramifications with their advisor and all relevant offices including Student Financial Services.
Important Information:
- Check your grades on myHeliotrope to verify that the W grade has been processed. You can also check your DPR to see the W grade reflected 1-2 days after submission.
- Dropping below full-time status (12 credits for undergraduates, 9 credits for graduates) may affect financial aid. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the implications this withdrawal may have on eligibility for various types of financial aid.
- Athletes: Students must contact the Athletics Office to report any change in credit status that may impact their ability to participate in sports or sponsored activities by emailing francesca.levine@purchase.edu or chris.bisignano@purchase.edu.
- International students: You are required by U.S. Government regulations to inform a Designated School Official PRIOR to dropping below full-time status (12 credits for undergraduates, 9 credits for graduates). Failure to do so may jeopardize your current visa status and/or your ability to obtain a U.S. visa in the future. Contact the Office for Global Education (international@purchase.edu or 914-251-6032).
