New Student Housing Guide
How to apply, pay deposits, choose roommates, and get your assignment at Purchase College.
Eligibility
On‑campus housing is offered to full‑time, matriculated students enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per semester.
Apply for Housing: Step-by-Step

- Go to purchase.edu/portal.
- Select myHeliotrope (activate your Purchase login first if needed).
- Choose the New Student box.
- Click Pay Deposits.

Choose one option:
- $150 Enrollment Deposit only, or
- $400 Enrollment + Housing Deposit.
- In your MyHousing portal, complete the Housing Application and sign the Residence License Agreement (RLA).
Helpful: You must complete the RLA and application to receive a room. The housing deposit is applied to your upcoming semester’s room charge.
Deposits & Refunds

- Enrollment Deposit: $150
- Housing Deposit: $250 (included if you pay the combined $400)
- Refund windows: Refundable until May 1 for fall and January 1 for spring. Always verify current cycle dates.
Deadlines & Housing Guarantees
First‑Year Students: Guaranteed housing if Enrollment Deposit, Housing Deposit, RLA, and Housing Application are completed by May 1 (Fall). Assignments are sent by mid‑July.
Transfer Students: Guaranteed housing if all required items are completed by June 1 (Fall). Assignments are sent mid‑July.
Roommate Selection
First‑Year Students: Use MyCollegeRoomie (opens mid to late May). You’ll receive an email to your Purchase account when it’s available. Requests are considered but not guaranteed.
Transfer Students: If you have a roommate request, email RSL@purchase.edu (not guaranteed).
Meal Plans
Residents in Central, Crossroads, Farside, Fort Awesome, Outback, or Wayback are required to enroll in a meal plan.
Assignment Timeline
Mid‑July: Housing assignments are released for freshmen and transfers. All assignments are final.
Registration Requirement
Register for 12+ credits by the posted deadlines (e.g., July 29 for freshmen / August 1 for transfers). Students who miss the deadline and have a housing assignment may lose their space and forfeit the $250 housing deposit.
