Liz Morel
Liz Morel is a Literature major. She will be presenting her senior project, “’You will ache like I ache’: Anguished Fame and Sadistic Catharsis in Female Authored Lyric Poetry, From Sylvia Plath to Lana Del Rey.” This project examines some female-authored lyrics, ranging from the twentieth to twenty-first century, that reflect the instability or fracturing of the self under the weight of fame, public perception, and societal pressures. Liz analyzes how the troubled, destabilized poet-speakers engage in a cathartic retaliation of sorts to grapple with fame-sickness, as they often address the public at large through second-person pronouns and take them through their internal chaos and anguish.
