Ellie Houghtaling ’19
Ellie Houghtaling ’19 is a Breaking News Writer for The New Republic.
Prior to that, Houghtaling was a Staff Reporter for The Real Deal and a freelance reporter for WNYC Radio and The Guardian.
In 2022, Houghtaling earned an MS in Investigative Journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism’s Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism.
Houghtaling held several positions while at Purchase, on and off campus, including at WNET New York Public Media, the Daily Voice, the Journal News, the Gotham Gazette, GenFKD, WPSR, and the Purchase Phoenix while also serving on campus as a peer mentor and president of Literature Society.
Houghtaling was cofounder and editor of Protest_NYC with fellow alum Curtis Brodner ’19, for which they that earned the Richard & Marylee Salomon Fund for Journalists Award in 2020.
