Alexandra Stamson ’19

Alexandra Stamson ’19 is a PhD candidate in Philosophy at the University of Connecticut.

She holds an MA in Philosophy from UConn, an MA in Gender Studies from the CUNY Graduate Center, and a BA in Media and Communication from the University of Southern Maine, in addition to her BA in Philosophy from Purchase, where she has taught as an adjunct lecturer.

Stamson has interests in social epistemology, feminist and queer theory, and media theory. Her central philosophical pursuits look at the ways that certain epistemic environments can impact the way that agents develop their self-identities, and the way that political, technological, and social pressures can harm agents in the capacity to understand themselves.

Along with her philosophical pursuits, Stamson uses her background in media theory and feminist philosophy to work on the analysis of gender and sexuality representation in popular fiction.

Her past academic aims have been to bring feminist philosophy and media/literary theory together in a way that critiques the impact that fictional narratives have on our social and cultural experience.
