Anna Brand ’23 (Featured Artist)

In Anna’s art practice, she explores subconscious painting. Often her paintings start as scribbles that build into faces, patterns, and otherworldly scenes. She seeks to merge realism with imagination by finding a common ground for technical skills and fantastical visions. To her, painting is a spiritual practice that allows her to temporarily leave our world and enter her own on the picture plan. She’s interested in the experimental capacity within mixed media and the materiality of paint. She is a Visual Art Interdisciplinary Major at Purchase College studying sculpture and drawing and painting with an environmental studies minor. In the future Anna sees herself studying nature through art and sciencAnne to better understand how having a relationship with the planet can foster health.
