Study Abroad Grades and Transcript

All Purchase students who study abroad require pre-approval to transfer credits in order for the grades and credits they earn abroad to appear on their official Purchase transcript. How and when those grades are received depends on the type of program you complete.

Purchase College Faculty-Led Program

For students participating in a Purchase College faculty-led program, credits and grades earned abroad will appear on your transcript in the same way and in the same timeframe as a course taken on the Purchase Campus. These are regular Purchase credits and therefore factor into your grade point average (GPA). The pre-approval to transfer credits process is not required for a Purchase faculty-led program.

Purchase/Non-Purchase SUNY Programs

Students who do a non-Purchase SUNY program, receive a “transcript supplement” from the SUNY campus administering the program that indicates the courses the student completed and their grades. These transcript supplements are received approximately eight to ten weeks after completing the program. It is your responsibility to contact the administering institution to follow-up on the status of your transcript. Please request that all transcripts be sent to the OGE office (see address below).

These are considered transfer credits and the grades are not factored into a your GPA. In order to determine whether the credits you intend to take abroad will be degree applicable, you need to submit the ‘Study Abroad Pre-approval to Transfer Credits’ form to the Registrar prior to the start of the program. The ‘Study Abroad Pre-approval to Transfer Credits’ form is only available in Horizons for students who have been accepted to a study abroad program.

Non-SUNY or Third Party Provider

Before committing to a program through a non-SUNY or third party provider, you must be certain that you can obtain a U.S. transcript, or a transcript from a U.S. accredited institution or organization. The timeline for the receipt of the program transcript will vary by program. It is your responsibility to contact the administering institution to follow-up on the status of your transcript. Please request that all transcripts be sent to the OGE office (see address below).
