Readjusting Back Home

For your student, returning to their home country can often be as challenging as departing from it.

Expect a difference in your student after they return from study abroad program. Some of the eye-opening experiences they had while abroad may have influenced your student. Your student may return with a different perspective, new interests, and new goals. They may also experience reverse culture shock, where they compare the U.S. to their education abroad destination. Providing a space that allows your student to talk about their experiences, asking questions, and encouraging them to incorporate their cross-cultural skill set into their interests is a great way to show support. They will need your support, your genuine interest, and your understanding.
