Applying for your Visa
Once you receive your Form I-20 from OGE, you can apply for an F-1 visa.
Make sure to:
- Ensure all of the information on the Form I-20 is correct. Notify OGE immediately if there are any misspellings or incorrect information.
- Sign and date at the bottom of page 1 of your Form I-20.
- Pay the SEVIS Registration Fee. You must have access to a printer to print a receipt of payment. Only pay the SEVIS fee by credit card; other payment forms may cause substantial delays.
For new students, the earliest an F-1 visa can be issued is 120 days in advance of the program start date on the I-20. It is best to apply for a student visa in your home country or country of permanent residence. The order of steps and amount of time needed to obtain a student visa may vary by country. Find your closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate and follow the instructions on how to apply for a Student Visa. After receiving your visa, make sure the visa type, your name and date of birth are correct and match the information in your passport.
